PROJECT INFORMATION

The Fraser & Seabloom Block development includes a +/- 424 sq ft second story office addition (to a single-story retail space) and a +/- 1220 sq ft retail addition to this historic building in Inglewood, Calgary.

One of a number of early commercial buildings found on the former Atlantic Avenue (now 9 Avenue SE), the Seabloom Block was built in 1909-10 for Oscar Seabloom, a local entrepreneur. Seabloom was also a partner in the construction of the nearby Fraser and Seabloom Block, a somewhat more imposing structure. The block is typical of pre-World War One commercial buildings and retains many details, like a pressed tin cornice, that were common decorative elements on buildings of this type and period. Over the years the building has had a number of interesting tenants, including the Dominion Chautaqua Company, which used it for storing stages and props in the 1920s.
